Special Interest Group

The SIG was led by Gene Strommen. He discussed numerous Microsoft Windows XP considerations. Gene described the increasing popularity of supplementary cooling, including multiple case fans, CPU chillers, and fans that mount against and circulate cooling air directly against hard drives. The group discussed the option of using the NTFS or the FAT32 file systems on hard drives under Windows XP. A brief discussion of hard drive defragmentation revealed that Windows XP continues with earlier version’s ability to run the default defrag utility from the drive properties dialog (tools tab). Gene continued with a demonstration of video playback from a hard disk file.
